Shopping in Shibuya

Today marked our first day in Tokyo, so we did what college girls do best: shopping! We hopped on the Yamanote Line and squished next to each other all the way to the bustling squares of Shibuya. We were greeted by towering skyscrapers and a massive five-way crosswalk the moment we emerged from the subway. Then we got to exploring! Here were some things we saw...

Don Quijote
Don Quijote

With seven full floors of products ranging from toys to suitcases, cosmetics to exotic fruits, and cosplay costumes to umbrellas, Don Quijote was the ultimate mega-convenience store experience. If a Mario Kart character designed an IKEA this would be it.

Shibuya 109
Shibuya 109

Upon entering multi-level mall we began to sense a theme: in Shibuya the buildings don't have room to go out...so instead they just go UP. And up and up we went! With each floor there was clothing, accessories, and SO much costume jewelry. My favorite part was seeing all the different fashions that are popular with the young people here!

Tokyu HANDS
Tokyu HANDS

This was by far my favorite stop on our shopping adventure. Some highlights were the reptile/fish/chinchilla pet shop floor and the stationary floor with thousands of pens. This place was like Don Quijote's responsible, less-overstimulating older cousin.

What a great write up. I’ve had dinner a bunch of times in the Shibuya 109 building, and love a good trip to Tokyu Hands!
